I Don’t know how to paint
I Don’t Know How to Paint was a series created for the opening of my studio in Barcelona. The title came from a simple question I kept asking myself at the time: how am I going to make paintings if I don’t know how to paint?
I went back to my earliest memories of painting, when as a child I was obsessed with using every colour available and rarely finished anything. This became the starting point for a series built around colour palettes and the familiar logic of paint-by-numbers.
Some works contain the colours and others the instructions, with numbered areas waiting to be filled. But the paintings are deliberately left incomplete, turning a system designed to tell you exactly what to do into an open invitation to continue.
