Assembly Required
Assembly Required was a project based on a series of ideas I had been exploring for some time: containers and contents, separate parts, things that fit together and others that seem to be missing something.
Presented at E03 Gallery in Beijing’s 798 Art Zone, the project included a new group of sculptures alongside wall pieces and illustrations. Most of the sculptures were produced in fiberglass, including several large-scale works. Their shapes borrow freely from packaging, industrial objects and organic forms, without ever becoming one thing in particular.
At the centre of the exhibition was Blooming Components, a sculpture garden composed of six large-scale pieces. Inspired by the idea of a traditional Asian garden, the installation combines pipes, tubes, spheres and mechanical shapes with more organic forms, creating an imaginary landscape somewhere between nature and industry.
